Douglas, Sir James
(15 ago. 1803, Demerara, Guayana Británica–2 ago. 1877, Victoria, Columbia Británica, Canadá).

Estadista canadiense, conocido como "padre de la Columbia Británica. Ingresó a la Hudson's Bay Co. en 1821 y llegó a ser socio principal encargado de las operaciones al oeste de las montañas Rocosas. En 1849 trasladó la oficina matriz de la empresa de Oregón a la isla de Vancouver. Fue gobernador de Vancouver entre 1851 y 1864. Al descubrirse oro en el río Fraser, en 1858, amplió su autoridad al territorio continental para preservar la presencia de Gran Bretaña en el Pacífico. Cuando Gran Bretaña creó la colonia de Columbia Británica, fue nombrado gobernador (1858–64).
